Elton John performed a rendition of his hit song “Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me” at the event. Elton John paid his respects to Queen Elizabeth II during his farewell show in Toronto. The singer sang “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me” at her funeral. He also sang “Candle in the Wind” at Princess Diana’s burial in 1997.

After a lengthy reign, Queen Elizabeth II has been honoured musically by Elton John, who reflected on her “bloody hard” labour.

The Rocket Man paid his respects to the late queen during his farewell act in Toronto on Thursday night (September 8), referencing the monarch’s death earlier that day at the age of 96 at Balmoral Castle in Scotland.

She was an amazing presence to be around,” he added as photographs of the late princess flashed on the giant screens on each side of the platform.

She led the nation with “grace and dignity and real love and warmth” through “some of our finest and worst periods.”

The Queen celebrated her Platinum Jubilee, completing 70 years on the throne in February of this year, making her the first British monarch to do so.

John went on, “I feel extremely sorry that that she won’t be with me any longer, but I’m delighted she’s at peace.” John was 75 years old, and his wife had been at his side the whole time. She deserves to relax, and I’m happy she is. She worked bloody hard. They have my deepest sympathies; she will be sorely missed. Her memory remains, though. Tonight we will play songs in her honour to commemorate her life.

After paying his respects to the monarch, the seasoned pop artist launched into a performance of “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me.”

John is quite familiar with the British royal family, and he memorably sang a modified version of “Candle in the Wind” at Princess Diana’s burial in 1997.

In 1998, he became the first out homosexual artist to earn a knighthood from Queen Elizabeth for his decades-long contributions to music and charity.

With the news of the Queen’s passing spreading throughout the world, Elton joined the millions of others who took to social media to express their sorrow.

He stated, “Along with the rest of the country, I am profoundly grieved to hear the news of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth’s demise.” The singer was 75 years old. She led the nation with dignity and compassion through some of its greatest and saddest crises, and she was an uplifting person to be around.

He said, “From my earliest memories to the present, the Queen Elizabeth has been a significant part of my life, and I shall miss her much.”

This Saturday night (September 10) at JMA Wireless Dome in Syracuse, New York, Elton continues his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour, his last lap around the globe.
